Sorry you got a fine!
It happens to the best of us. This page explains how to check for traffic fines and how to pay them. We will usually notify you within one week of the end of your rental if you have any fines, but please check yourself after returning the bike. Usually fines show up within 48 hours, but sometimes it takes a bit longer.
How to Check For and Pay Traffic Fines
To check traffic fines and pay them in Rwanda you need to know the bike registration number and the TIN (tax) number. You should have received these on the insurance document and yellow card we sent you, but if you can't find those, just drop us a line.

To check for traffic fines, click this link and enter the registration and TIN number. Then click 'check fines'. If there are no fines you will get a little message in red saying ' No fines linked to this vehicle.'

If you have a fine, it will appear like this:

Be sure to check the date of the fine against your rental period to make sure you are not paying someone else's fine. If you do have a fine, simply follow these steps to pay it:

1. Go to the Irembo website. You can select English or French in the top right.
2. Scroll down to 'Traffic Fines' under 'Police'

3. When you get the pop-up, click 'apply.'

4. Enter your registration number and TIN number.

5. Select the check box for each of the fines you intend to pay, then click 'next.'

6. This will take you through to a payment page where you can choose which payment method to use, including mobile money, bank transfer (within Rwanda) and by card. If you are overseas, card is the best method. Please forward us a copy of proof of payment by e-mail or WhatsApp.
If you have trouble with this system, we can assist you for a $10 service fee on top of reimbursement for the fines paid.

Please note that if you do not settle your traffic fines within 28 days, we will pass your information to local police and you may be asked to pay them if you return to the country. We will always notify you before doing this, but we have had a few customers skip out on paying fines and it is really difficult for our business to absorb those costs. Thank you for understanding.
